The oldest state secondary school in New Zealand, Nelson College has been educating young men since 1856 and offers both boarding and homestay facilities. The school provides an environment where every student is encouraged to make the most of his potential with a wide range of excellent facilities including a new international centre and library, computer suites, technology block, 2 gymnasiums and a swimming pool. We also have well-resourced Science, Music, Art and Drama departments, sports fields and courts all situated in 22 hectares of park-like grounds.

Another unique feature of Nelson College is Mataki Lodge. Owned by Nelson College the Lodge has been used by thousands of Nelson College students as a way of introducing them to the extensive New Zealand backcountry, bush and mountains.

The Board of Trustees have formally adopted Vision 2006, a document that embodies the aspirations and strategic plans of the Nelson College community over the next four years. Vision 2006 paints a picture of Nelson College at the end of 2006 and can be viewed on our website.
